MEISIE Dirección / Director: Darrell James Roodt Meisie es un niñita que vive en los confines del Kalahari. Ella vive solita con su padre cuidando de sus cabras y aunque ya está en edad escolar su padre le prohíbe asistir a clases. Meisie es incondicionalmente obediente, a pesar de su natural afinidad a las matemáticas y su ansiedad por expresarse más allá de los límites del mundo paternal. Cuando llega a esa aislada comunidad una maestra joven, que con su bondad y su personalidad provista de tantos recursos logra obtener el apoyo de la comunidad local. Un día descubre a Meisie resolviendo una complicada ecuación en el pizarrón y devela la verdad acerca de esta joven. Decidida a ayudar a esta niña superdotada a desplegar sus habilidades, la maestra todos los días viaja largas distancias hasta su casa. Meisie is a young girl who lives on the edge of the Kalahari, She lives alone with her father, looking after his goats, and although she is of school-going age her father forbids her to attend school. Meisie is, for her part, unconditionally obedient, despite her natural affinity for mathematics and her yearning to express herself out of the confi nes of her father’s world. When a young teacher from Cape Town arrives to the isolated community, her kindness and resourcefulness quickly gain the trust of the local community. One day she discovers Meisie unravelling a complicated equation on the blackboard and discovers the truth about the young girl. Determined to help the gifted girl unleash her abilities, she travels the long distance to Meisie’s home every day to give her private lessons, all the while avoiding her angry father. |
